Eating Strategies

Strategy 1

Grocery shopping:

Healthy eating starts with healthy grocery shopping. Don't buy junk food; keep it out of your house - that's the first and best line of defense.

Strategy 2

Over eating:

There are many healthy foods that taste great. Discover them; and when you feel the need to gorge, then gorge on those great tasting healthy foods (not junk food). For example, gorge on a pile of grapes, not a carton of ice cream.

Strategy 3

Junk food craving:

If you stop eating a particular junk food for a long time, then you can lose your cravings for it. This is somewhat analogous to why AA specifies absolute abstinence from alcohol.

Strategy 4

Large meals:

At large meals such as buffets and parties, eat slowly and take breaks because it takes time for your brain to acknowledge that your stomach is full. Consequently, eating fast is conducive to over eating. Also, if you use a small plate at a buffet, then you're likely to pile-on less food.

Strategy 5

Simple, real foods:

Eat simple, real foods; and accordingly, avoid foods that have added sugar or are processed.
